The Program
Band begins in the 5th grade with a 30 minute homogeneous
class and a 30 minute full band experience. In 6th grade, students have
band three days per week is various settings. During grades 7 through 12,
band rehearses 5 days per week. All classes meet during the school day.
Each building has a "head director" that is responsible for planning the
instruction for those students. Because of administrative support and
flexible schedules, other directors are able to assist and team teach
most classes several days each week. All directors teach at more than one
level throughout the district.
The High School Bands
The Hilliard Davidson Band Program offers students many diverse musical
opportunities. The program includes three concert bands; Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band and Concert Band. Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band are
audition based, ability grouped bands (grades 10 - 12) while Concert Band is a freshmen band.
Students who audition to the top of each section also perform in the Hilliard
Davidson Symphony Orchestra. Students can expect to perform literature from grade 2 to grade 5 during their
four years in high school. Each ensemble performs 3/4 concerts per year as
well as OMEA Adjudicated Events.
While the concert
bands are the ensemble center piece of the Davidson Band program, Marching Band,
Jazz Band, Pep Band, Indoor Drum line and Winter Guard are the more visible
aspects of the program. We are very proud of the accomplishments of each
of these ensembles. In the fall of 2005, the marching band completed an
outstanding season that included several Grand Champion Awards, and our 25th
State Marching Band Final Superior Rating.
